Rent-A-Coder is a forum, based on the Internet, designed to connect businesses in need with a worldwide network of freelance programmers. This online marketplace is far from being one dimensional; Rent-A-Coder also connects of businesses and entrepreneurs with graphic artists, language translators, and writers. Ian Ippolito is the founder of Rent-A-Coder and the CEO at Exhedra Solutions, Inc. He claims the idea dawned on him after turning down several lucrative coding projects because he did not have the time.

Eventually, this notion took the form of a website, Rent-A-Coder.com, and grew quite quickly.

Rent-A-Coder is now considered to be the eBay of the programming industry, where over 100,000 programmers bid on projects posted by tens of thousands of businesses. This one-of-a-kind system has created an international network where businesses in Portland, Oregon are hiring programmers in India and Austria.

This model is considered by many people to be the hypercompetitive future of the industry.

As a result of this worldwide network, businesses pay the lowest possible amount for projects. The programmers benefit from always having an array of options, and thus getting to pick from the gamut of available projects.
